The Dutch introduced Arabica coffee to Indonesia in 1696. For years, this countrys coffee was the standard by which coffee quality was measured until a leaf rust disease nearly destroyed Indonesias coffee industry. Today, most of this countrys coffee is Robusta. With aid from Indonesias government, arabica coffees, including Timor Java, are slowly reclaiming that status. The beans are grown at high altitudes on plantations. Timor Java has an unmatched aromatic spiciness, strong, vibrant flavor, low acidity, and a rich, smooth, full-bodied flavor. Unlike most Arabica coffees that possess a lot of brightness, Timor Java has a more muted tone all its own.
